To get to Kamakura , take the JR East railway from Tokyo , with a brief stop at the Kitakamakura Station. There is another way to Kamakura from Shinjuku at a lesser price though this may require transfers - not a recommended route for the innocent first-timer in Japan.
Upon getting off in the city, you can go around by using the Enoden - a train that looks like street cars connecting Kamakura with Enoshima and Fujisawa . You can also use the walkways that provide the prefect setting for a leisurely walk around the town or rent a bike. Most of the shrines are near one of the stations along the railway. With a handy map, one can easily find his way around the place. A couple of sights, too far for a leisurely stroll, can be reached be reached by taxi or local bus.
