Kirakuen Park – This great park, a lso called by the Japanese
as the ‘plum park’ because of its 3,000+ plum trees
of more than a hundred varieties, is one of Japan’s three
best city parks. The park was established in 1841 by the 9th
Mito Clan Lord, Nariaki Tokugawa. The name of the park, Kirakuen,
means that the is not only for the enjoyment of the Clan Lord
and his family, but also by the common people.
Kodokan Hall – The largest clan school of the Edo period
is found here in Mito City.
Art Tower Mito – Mito’s de facto art and performance
centre was designed by the top artists and architects in Japan.
There are exclusive areas for art, music, and theatre. A distinctive
tower rises over the entire art complex and can be seen from
most parts of the city.
