Nagoya’s primary economic driver is the automotive industry with most of Japan’s major manufacturers based in or around Nagoya. The most notable company is Toyota, with its headquarters in Toyota City, a few minutes away from Nagoya’s downtown district. Other large enterprises are Marukawa, a major confectionary company, and the ceramics giant Noritake. Recent developments have attracted small to medium sized aerospace and information technology companies to the city.
