Nagoya’s primary economic driver is the
automotive industry with most of Japan’s major manufacturers
based in or around Nagoya. The most notable company is Toyota,
with its headquarters in Toyota City, a few minutes away from
Nagoya’s downtown district. Other large enterprises are
Marukawa, a major confectionary company, and the ceramics giant
Noritake. Recent developments have attracted small to medium
sized aerospace and information technology companies to the
city.
