The city has a population of more than 2 million people, making it Japan’s fourth-largest city. With a land area of 326.5 square kilometres, Nagoya has a very high population density of over 6,700 people per square kilometre. Metropolitan Nagoya extends into the Mie and Gifu prefectures, accounting for over 6 million people. In terms of metropolitan area and population, only Osaka and Tokyo are bigger.
