Discover Nara

Nara City is one of Japan’s oldest cities and the capital of Nara Prefecture found in the Region of Kansai, near Kyoto. The United Nations Educational Scientific Cultural Organization, or UNESCO, declared seven temples and shrines in Nara as World Heritage Sites. These sites are: Todaiji, Kofukuji, Kasuga Shrine, Gangoji, Yakushiji, Toshodaiji and Heijo Palace.

Nara City has an estimated population of over 360,000 with a population density of around 1,720 persons per square kilometre. The city has a total area of 212 square kilometres.
