Discover Oita

Oita City, located on the island of Kyushu, is one of Japan’s showcase urban developments after the end of the Second World War. Although considered as one of Japan’s older, historic cities, Oita is currently experiencing renewed economic activity. One of the city’s goals is to become a regional hub in southern Japan and become a crossroad for the Asia Pacific.

  • Population: 125,000 on the scenic southern island of Kyushu.
  • Kitsch, commercial spa town with many hot springs on Japan’s Riviera.
  • New soccer stadium and Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University part of Oita’s plans to re-invent itself as a happening place.
  • Hot sand baths and mud baths to ease aches and pains.
  • Food speciality: fugu (blowfish).
  • Modern aquarium "Umi no tamago" (Sea egg)
