Discover Osaka

Osaka, the third largest city in Japan, is a major port on the South coast of Honshu Island. It is the centre of the populous industrial area called the Kinki, and is one of Japan’s most important commercial and industrial centres with a great diversity of manufactures. It is also a major educational and cultural centre. A very ancient city, it developed as Japan’s leading trading city after the 16th century.

Osaka has a population of 2.7 million. However, its day time population is second in Japan after Tokyo. The city is one of Japan's major industrial centers and ports, as well as the capital of Osaka Prefecture and a central part of the Osaka-Kobe-Kyoto metropolitan area which has a population of 16.6 million.
