Good calligraphy indicators

For the masters, the difference can easily be identified, but much like with western art or music the variation is not easy to describe.

There exists a natural balance in both the composition and the characters as a whole if:

  1. Curved lines are mobile and elegant.
  2. Straight lines are clear and strong.
  3. There is a rhythm in the whole work.
  4. The character sizes are scaled that gives life to the work.
  5. There is variation in thinness and thickness.
  6. The amount of ink on the brush is uniform all throughout

Calligraphy can be likened to a song. Their lyric is the musical score while the calligrapher is the musician; each tries to give meaning to the score to generate a noteworthy version.
