Metamorphosis

A geisha is not produced overnight. It takes six years of learning through practice and observation. It is in one way or the other a secret society, a life that leads to a multitude of challenges so unique from those outside.

The head of the geisha house is called atotori, she is chosen by the old atotori at a very young age and is trained by the same to one day run the house of geisha’ the okiya. At an average, at the early age of thirteen, right after the completion of her intermediate school, the future atotori and geisha are sent to the okiya to start their intense training.

These girls were to be taught dancing, playing an instrument, serving drinks, conversation a lot more skills they needed to execute in their profession as geisha.
