What are the benefits of learning karate?

There are a lot of benefits, both physical and mental, in learning karate. Karate improves one’s flexibility, strength, endurance and coordination. Aside from these, karate also improves one’s concentration and self-discipline and increases one’s self-confidence.

What is the proper attire when training karate?

The uniform that is used in karate is called the Gi. The Gi is made to be very robust such that it can handle any pulling or contact. There are three parts that makes a Gi, the jacket, the pants and the belt.

What type of ranking is used to determine proficiency levels in karate?

Just like other types of martial arts techniques, Karate also uses colored belts to determine skill or experience levels. The standard hierarchy of colors is as follows: white, yellow, green, brown and black.

The Kyu or rank normally starts at 10 and ends at 1. For black belt holders, however, ranks are in increase from 1st Dan to 10th Dan. Beginners on the other hand are start with the 10th kyu.

How long does it take to garner a black belt?

For those who regularly train, it usually takes 3-4 years to merit a black belt.

What is the best style to learn in karate?

Each of the karate styles focus on a different area or technique. For this reason, the best style is the one that suits you the best.
