What type of ranking is used to determine proficiency levels
in karate?
Just like other types of martial arts techniques, Karate also
uses colored belts to determine skill or experience levels. The
standard hierarchy of colors is as follows: white, yellow, green,
brown and black.
The Kyu or rank normally starts at 10 and ends at 1. For black
belt holders, however, ranks are in increase from 1st Dan to
10th Dan. Beginners on the other hand are start with the 10th
kyu.
How long does it take to garner a black belt?
For those who regularly train, it usually takes 3-4 years to
merit a black belt.
What is the best style to learn in karate?
Each of the karate styles focus on a different area or technique.
