Modern Japanese Painters

Modern Japanese art has progressed greatly with the influence of Western art. Although there are still some remaining artists who are purists, most painters still bring in the elements that make Japanese painting a class of art on its own.

Famous modern-day Japanese artists include, Taikan Yokoyama (1868-1958) was  well-known for his “Pine Trees and a Quail” artwork; Chiura Obata (1885-1975) whose works were popular in the west and includes “World Landscape Series – America”; Seiho Takeuchi (1864-1942), a Shinjo artist whose work includes “Blue Mount Fuji” and “Monkey”; Tadamasa Ueno (1904-1970) who known for his Kabuki-inspired paintings; and Shoen Uemura (1875-1949), a female Japanese artists who is very well known for her courageous efforts in fighting for women’s rights in Japan.
