Miscellaneous information

Visa application can be done in two days to three months, depending on some factors such as the content of the application or the situation of the consulate. For applications that require inquiries to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it may take up to 3 months or more to process the application. But if no inquiries need to be made, two days to one week would be sufficient time to process the visa application.

Period of validity of a visa would also depend on the type of visa one acquires. It is important to note, though, that the period of validity signifies the period in which the visa can be used at the time of entry in Japan and not the permitted period of stay in the country. For single-entry visas, the period of validity is three months. While for double-entry and multiple-entry visas, the period of validity is six months and 12 months, respectively.

The Japanese consulate also serves the right not to issue a visa to the applicant when any of the following circumstances has been proven: if applicant does not have a valid passport, if the contents of the application are false, if the applicant has a criminal record involving prostitution, marijuana etc, if the applicant has been imprisoned for one year, if the applicant has been deported within five years from Japan because of illegal residence, if the applicant is feared to engage in activities that will be deemed harmful and disturb public order in Japan.
