Several years ago, Europeans regarded Japanese houses as “rabbit
cages” because unlike Western structures where houses
are built in at least a 100 square meter perimeter, a typical
Japanese dwelling place hardly make up 40 square meters. Yet,
in spite of all that space or lack thereof, the Japanese
seem to be very comfortable living in it. An average Japanese
family has about 3 to 4 people per household, living under
the 40 square meter space. However, interestingly, they still
manage to live contentedly in their homes.
