Pets in Japan
Pets are domesticated animals that serve as man’s living
companions. Originally kept for security, pets now serve other
functions which already include giving comfort and emotional
security to its owner. Although anybody can own a pet, there
are some places that, due to existing cultural or physical conditions,
impose heavy restrictions on pet owners.
In Japan, having a pet in the city is not recommended. This
is primarily due to the constricted and small living spaces in
the city. Despite this, some families still manage to keep a
cat or a dog. Having a four-footed friend in Japan is not illegal
but it requires a lot of responsibility.
