Famous Dishes
Japanese food is divided according to method
of cooking and preparation. Agemono means deep-fry. Examples
of agemono dishes are tempura (shrimp) and tonkatsu (pork).
Donburi dishes or rice bowl dishes have meat and vegetables
simmered together over rice. Examples of these are katsudon
(pork) and oyakudon (chicken and egg). Gyoza (pork) and teriyaki
(fish or chicken) are examples of pan-fried dishes or Yakimono
in Japanese. Noodles which replaces rice sometimes are called
men-rui in Japanese. Examples of these are ramen, udon, soba
and champon.
The most famous Japanese food is the sashimi.
These are raw thinly sliced foods served with a dipping sauce
and
simple garnishes.
Most common sashimi dishes are fish sashimi or the tuna sashimi.
Wasabi
or Japanese horseradish is an essential condiment in Japanese
cuisine. It’s the light green paste that accompanies
sushi and so on.
