Types of Toys

Toys in Japan can be categorized into two main types: traditional or folk toys and modern toys.

Today, Japan is considered to be one of the forerunners in developing the latest technology in modern toy-making and some toys from Japan are fast-becoming popular worldwide.

Although modern toys have become popular, both Japanese children and adults still have an affinity for traditional Japanese toys. Japan’s customs and history are often times mirrored in these toys and are sometimes traced back to a religious or supernatural origin.
