Western Influence in the Japanese Wedding

The western influence to the wedding ceremony in Japan came about in the middle of 20th century. Newly wed couples today enjoy the intertwining of both the traditional wedding and the flavors of the modern western culture. To create an unforgettable once in a lifetime experience of Japanese couples are elaborated further through infusing in the reception party many western practices.  Like weddings in the US, the exchange of wedding rings is done today. Some ceremonies are in fact completely influenced by the west, like brides chose to wear white, Christian style dresses, and changing western style gowns at the reception.  The practice of cake slicing, and honeymoons are just few of the adopted elements.

Japanese Wedding Outside Japan

Much of the changes in the Japanese wedding tradition is due to the increasing wedding ceremonies held outside Japan.  In this instances, Japanese couples resort to an entirely Christian ceremony at a Christian church even if the couple is not Christian.
