The Day of the Japanese Wedding
The
bride’s “head to toe” is painted with white
to declare her purity to the “Kami”. She wears
the white kimono called “Uchikake” and a headpiece
decorated with gallant ornaments to entice fortune and good luck
to the new couple. A hood coloured white is also attached
to her kimono to symbolically hide “jealousy”. The
groom wears a black kimono. At the wedding ceremony, the
respective families of the bride and groom face each other while
the couple exchanges pronouncement of vows. After sharing
the “sake”, the fathers of the couple introduce members
of their families.
