Anime itself contains obvious Japanese cultural influence, and many otaku become fascinated by Japaneses culture as a result. From language to food, anime fans are often quite interested in Japan. Pocky, a stick-shaped cracker covered in sugar eaten in Japan, is sometimes considered an icon of anime culture. Knowledge of Japaneses language is considered an important skill among true fans, and most know at least a few words. Japanese culture is also very familiar to most anime fans.
