Effectiveness of the Massage

The employment of shiatsu and acupressure has been discovered to be beneficial in relieving pain and sickness in the following medical studies.

In 1986, 142 car factory workers with chronic lumbar pain were treated with acupressure everyday for 21 days on points along the spine, back and front of legs. 68 percent were cured, 29 percent of patients displayed noticeable improvements, while 3.5 percent did not have a noticeable change. Improved sleep was also experienced by the people who have undergone the treatment.

Head ache pains were treated through shiatsu according to a 24 month study reported in Current Psychiatric Therapy in 1977. The acupressure or shiatsu techniques were identified as the main treatment for the pain of migraine, tension headaches and allergy of more than 500 neuropsychiatric outpatients. By that, the treatment replaced outpatient prescriptions for analgesics and stronger medications.

The American Journal of Chinese Medicine, in 1982, reported that various methods, including acupressure, were helpful in the elderly’s general health improvement and longevity promotion.

Shiatsu is an accepted and approved therapy in Japan and it is gaining in acceptance either as an alternative or complementary therapy in the west.
