In your own office
After following strict rules of conduct in dealing
with other people in the business setting, being in your own
office gives you just the break you need. However, though you
can act relaxed in your office, you will still need to abide
by certain common courtesies in dealing with your staff and
superiors.
You should not forget to bow in the presence
of senior managers.
For your co-workers, a sincere bow with a
comment on the weather of other common subject is fine. When
you arrive at your office in the morning, you should greet
others with a loud “ohaiyo gozaimasu” or “good
morning”. When you are ready to leave at the end of the
day, you should loudly say “osaki ni shitsure shimasu” or “excuse
y rudeness for leaving before you”. As a response, the
people you have left behind will utter "gokurosama" or "o-tsukaresama".
This practice proves how respect is very important for the
Japanese, especially in doing business.
