The Prime Minister is the head of the executive
branch of the government. The prime minister leads the government
and represents Japan abroad. Members of the Diet elect the
prime minister, who must be a civilian and an elected member
of the Diet. The prime minister selects members of the Cabinet
to help govern the country. At least half the Cabinet ministers
must be members of the Diet.
