History of Japanese Healthcare
Once there were acupuncturists, herbalists and
masseurs in Japan who took care of the sick people, among other
traditional and folk remedies. Going to a Buddhist temple
or Shinto shrine is another therapy a sick Japanese may opt. After
the postwar period, Japan has also adapted to biomedicine brought
about by the West. In 1961, Japan established a universal
health insurance system, covering all citizens of Japan.
