Frequently Asked Questions

Why did Japan have such a strong military despite being a small country compared to other super powers?

The Japanese Military was a strong force, not by weaponry, but because of an intense patriotism which was deeply engraved in the soul of each Japanese soldier. Serving the Emperor was a great honor for these warriors, even at the cost of one’s life.

Are Japanese soldiers also Samurai?

The Yamato-Damashi, Japan’s national moral spirit derived from Shintoism, instilled the values of fighting with all of one’s strength and to never surrender into Japanese Imperial soldiers. They valued honor the same way Samurai did and would rather perform Harakiri than be a prisoner of war.

What’s so great about the Japanese Imperial Army?

It was in the Meiji Restoration period when the traditional warriors, the Samurai, were replaced by the neo-army that could withstand bullets and cannons by having the same kind of weaponry used by Europeans in expanding their power.

Why isn’t Japan into conquering countries anymore?

After the surrender of the Japanese Imperial Army, the Japanese government renounced war as a means to resolve disagreements, and was stripped off of military and artillery power.
