Meiji Restoration – during this period between 1866 and
1869, the Japan reverted to its Imperial government with Emperor
Meiji as ruler
Samurai – ancient Japanese warrior
Harakiri – a Japanese act of honor by taking one’s
own life
Shintoism – Japanese national religion during the Meiji
period
Yamato-Damashi – name given to describe the Japanese moral
spirit derived from Shintoism which meant, Heart/Soul of Yamato.
Axis Powers – countries including Japan, Germany and Italy,
which were responsible for waging World War 2
