Japanese Ceramics
Pottery actually originated in the formative years of Japan
where such artifacts are remnants from the invasion that the
Yayoi people towards Japan. This has since been practiced by
Japan in its thrive for the arts, pottery making which would
soon be improved on the succeeding centuries of the country.
Ri Sampei, a Korean porcelain maker that was brought to Japan
as per order of the local lord Nabeshima, originally introduced
Japanese porcelain in 1604. The fine white porcelain that is
produced is more commonly known as Arita-yaki. Yaki actually
stands for earthenware, potter or porcelain.
Today, this fine porcelain ceramic finishes have
become one of the most sought after art products that Japan has
ever introduced. The same finish is used in another of Japan’s
arts, the tea ceremonies. This fine finish of porcelain also
serves as the main tea holding cups, traditionally all over Japan,
and some parts of the world that has followed suit to the Japanese
arts.
