Ginza - Tokyo's Fashion Capital
A district known as Tokyo’s fashion capital,
Ginza is where you will find the most exclusive shops and the
most expensive restaurants in Japan. With streets lined with
neon signs, boutiques and fancy food places, real estate property
value in this district is always at an all time high. This
is the place where a coffee can go as high as $10 a cup.
When
you mention Ginza, it immediately connotes a place where
the wealthy go shopping. While shopping is the main activity,
Ginza has more endearing attractions other than the high-end
stores found in the area.
It is a favorite destination of middle-aged
office ladies who walk the streets of Ginza after office
hours, in search of
the latest in fashion trend. At Christmas time, the streets
are illuminated
with hundreds of Christmas lights, much to the delight of
the shoppers. If pressed for money, for a very little fee you
can
watch a traditional kabuki play or visit Asia's largest fish
market.
On Sundays, the streets of Chuo-Dori are closed
to motor traffic. Called Pedestrian Paradise, the streets are
filled
with thousands
of people enjoying soft music while watching performers
and
puppeteers on the streets.
