A popular hang-out place for informal meetings, Izakaya are drinking places that serve a variety of small dishes, such as robata (grilled food), salads and finger food, which is why it is probably the most popular restaurant type in Japan. Rather than ordering and eating individually, customers of Izakaya usually share all dishes they ordered. It is probably the most popular restaurant type among Japanese people.

• Family Restaurant and Shokudo
Family restaurants (famiresu) and Shokudo caters to the varying tastes of the whole family by serving a wider range or luscious dishes.

• Teishoku-ya
Teishoku-ya are restaurants that sell teishoku (set menus) which usually consists of a main dish such as a fried fish, a bowl of cooked rice and small side dishes. Teishoku-ya are more popular as lunch places in business areas.
